Spring Flower Walks – CANCELED

JUNE 9   Hop Field Trail at Thacher Park: Nancy Engel will take us in a loop that runs through woods with acidic soils and a large wetland.  In the woods we will find Canada mayflower, gaywings, blueberries, starflowers, and other late spring bloomers, including pink ladyslippers.  Near the wetland we’ll see many fern species including cinnamon, interrupted, maidenhair, and walking fern.  The trail starts with an uphill section leading to a mainly level loop.  The wetland portion can be very wet, so be prepared for mud.

Directions: Hop Field is located near the eastern entrance of the park, on the south side of Thacher Park Rd.  For directions see April 28; this trail’s parking is about 1 mile east of the Visitor Center, just past the overlook.  The parking fee is $6, but on weekdays those 62 and older can get a free parking pass at the Visitor Center.
