Lester Park is famous for its geology, with stomatolites nearly 500 million years old, and for its much more recent glacial geology. The ancient rock is limestone and the surrounding area has rich limestone soil with a great array of wildflowers, which should be at their peak at this date. Nancy Slack, leader. Directions: Northwest of Saratoga Springs; take Rt. 9N, turn west onto Rt. 21/ Middle Grove Rd., turn south on Lester Park Rd. and drive roughly a half mile. Or from Ballston Spa, keep straight north at Rt. 50 Diner, veer left at the Y intersection to follow Rt. 47/Rowland St., which eventually becomes Lester Park Rd. (Address Lester Park Rd., Greenfield Center, NY.)
