ECOS, SiCM/Schenectady Urban Farms, ReTree Schenectady, the Schoharie River Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the Schenectady County Soil & Water Conservation District are all coming together for an Arbor Day Festival at the Vale Urban Farm. The event will take place on Sunday April 30, 12:30-3 p.m.
Activities will include tree identification and measuring, water testing, and a leaf scavenger hunt for kids (and adults), as well as demonstrations of bee keeping and composting, tours of the Vale Urban Farm and Orchard, and the planting and mulching of new trees.
This event will not only highlight the fun and importance of trees, but also bring together many of Schenectady’s invaluable ecological groups and their members.
The farm is best accessed by using the Vale gate on Brandywine Avenue, flanked by two brick pillars; they are about 2500 feet north of State Street to the left. Once inside, just follow around the small circle of trees that’s directly ahead, and the farm is to your left.
In case of inclement weather call (518) 370-4125 for event status
