ECOS Earth Day Bike Ride on April 23

Meet at the Whipple bridge in the Vischer Ferry preserve in Clifton Park (intersection of Van Vranken and Riverview Rd) at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 23. We will ride along the towpath, with stops to examine how the former canal has transformed into a habitat for a diverse range of species.

The ride will be at a casual pace (12 mph) with a total distance of about 10 miles. The surface is primarily packed gravel so hybrid or gravel bikes are best, however road or mountain bikes are fine.

Canal Clean Sweep on April 23

The Friends of the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail and ECOS are co-sponsoring a Canal Clean Sweep event along the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail on Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will pick up litter along a section of trail in Schenectady County.

Canal Clean Sweep takes place each Earth Day and is hosted by the NYS Canal Corporation and Parks & Trails New York host Canal Clean Sweep. Volunteer groups across the state spend the weekend spring cleaning sections of the Canalway Trail, in canalside parks, and in other public areas throughout the Canal corridor.

Trash bags will be provided but volunteers should bring their own work gloves. Call Gillian Scott at 518-372-8478 or email [email protected] to volunteer, for service alternatives, or for more details.
